Robotic Surgery for Uterine Cancer
With the help of robotic surgery, surgery for uterine cancer is done through small holes. As there is no big incision and minimal blood loss patients recover very fast.
In this surgery first gas and camera are inserted in the abdomen of the patients. Then instruments are inserted through other small holes. Then the surgeon sits on the console and sees through the 3D, HD, 10x camera. His movements are precisely transmitted to the robotic arms near the patient.
In this surgery the entire uterus is removed along with parametrium (surrounding tissue around it) and part of vagina. This is known as radical hysterectomy. Bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection is done and omental biopsy taken. The specimens are removed through the vagina.
The patient is usually sent home in two to three days.
Robotic surgery is the latest and best treatment for endometrial cancer.
