PSMA PET scan




Prostate cancer is a common cancer in men older than 45 years. Its treatment depends on the stage of the cancer. Robotic surgery, Radiotherapy, hormone therapy and other novel therapies are used according to the extent of cancer.
So it becomes very important to identify the exact stage of cancer before and during the treatment of prostate cancer.
In PSMA PET scan a special drug is used which has two characteristics. Firstly, it is taken up by prostate cancer cells. So this drug goes to all the areas in the body to which prostate cancer has spread. Secondly ,this drug lightens up on scan. So on scan the areas to which prostate cancer has spread lighten up. These areas are easily seen and exact stage of prostate cancer can be identified.
