Robotic surgery for prostate cancer


Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is the treatment of choice for localised prostate cancer. In this surgery prostate is removed along with its capsule, seminal vesicles and vas deferens. Bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection is also done.
When done through open approach, an incision is made on the abdomen. But in Robotic surgery, only small holes are made. Camera and other instruments are inserted through these holes. Camera provides 3D, 10x, HD view and instruments provide seven degrees of motion. This helps the surgeon to perform precise and accurate surgery with minimal blood loss. The patient has less pain and recovers early.
